We have a grand vision, but we know that it's going to be a long road to make it a reality. However, we're not going to let any obstacle stop us from achieving our goal. We believe that with your help, we can make it happen. So, we urge you to join us on this journey and be a part of something truly amazing. Together, we can create something that will make a real difference in the world.
When the dust clears...
It's funny how when you're in the middle of the storm your first reaction is to survive right...? Everyone around us, always says don't give up keep fighting. But no one ever explains that when you can relax for the very first time because you were fighting with everything that you had in you, there is a price you pay when the dust clears. And you have to sit with everything that has happened. And now you're left with this overwhelming sense of loss and anger.
The fight you were thrown into wasn't by choice. It was because someone violated your home and your way of living and destroyed your peace.
They took something precious and innocent and took it away without regard for Catalina's life. Or her family's love for her. I know our family's fight isn't over we're bound over to trial. We don't know when that will happen but we are ready when that trial day comes. The day they have to face what they've done to Catalina.
Nothing for us is the same. We're quiet people who just live our day-to-day lives. Never wanting attention on ourselves... But life had other plans. We've had our tragic story in the papers. And on television. Everyone has opinions on this situation.
Everyone makes judgments. That sticks with us even though we have such amazing people supporting us. There have been some very disturbing things done to our family that no apologies can fix. Try to imagine getting graphic images sent to you of dead cats
while searching for hours and days. Then these cruel people decide it would be amusing to post fake sightings of Catalina for what sick their amusement. It was horrendous and in reality, should have been our breaking point. We're only now feeling that pain. There is an anger that comes for you that makes you need to fight once more even harder than before. All we wanted was to find Catalina and bring her home.
She was and still is what matters. We have to face the unacceptable reality that she was tortured and killed!!
UPDATE!!!
04/02/2024 Preliminary hearing was a big victory today case is bound for trial no other specifics was given at this time.. Thank you all for your continued support.
Part one
The day we adopted Catalina and Sweeney we went to see a beautiful female Maine coon the looked just like our Dunkin that passed away at 16yrs old. But the beautiful and very sassy little one wanted nothing to do with us. However, this tiny little fluff ball kept following around my husband he then asked about her and her story. She was there because she was a hard case to adopt. 2 failed abdominal surgeries to fix an umbilical hernia that left her at high risk for future problems. However, we fell in love with her and her big green eye anyway. Then there was Sweeney, he wasn't letting us leave that day without him. He had decided for us that we would be his family and that was that! As you can see in the picture because the saying a picture is worth a thousand words. In this case I completely agree with that statement. She was not happy with being held by daddy or anyone else for that matter. But she was sweet and awkward but never scratched or bit him. Just let us know it wasn't appropriate! We took them to their vet appointment a few days later. Our family vet was very sweet and honest about Catalina. She said after all she has been through, she didn't feel Catalina could handle another surgery. We had a choice we could simply love her for the time we had or choice to make the hardest decision. We decided we would give her the time she needed to heal and hopefully recover for the most part.
She began to be more sociable and let me tell you. She had no social skills! She was awkward and lacked understanding when she was overstaying her welcome with her brothers. But at the end of the day, they would snuggle up and fall asleep together. They even taught her to play, and it was adorable to watch. She loved to just follow you around watching the birds at the deck door with her brothers or hangout on the table no matter how much you asked her not too. She more than not her that beautiful fluff of a tail in her water bowl. We could never understand how. Most cats don't enjoy a bath, but she hated it with a passion. But grooming she absolutely loved would sit and prance around like a princess. No matter how long it took. But most days she either slept the day away tucked up on her spot on the couch or hiding away in a corner or under the chair. You didn't hear much from her unless she was hungry and wanted to quick pet. That is why this whole situation doesn't make sense. Not that it how can any of this make sense. No one should ever have to feel afraid that someone would ever hurt or kill your family pet. They're safe at home, not roaming the streets. Not that any animal should be harmed regardless of them being outside or inside a home. We have tried to make sense of if. But no matter how hard it is just an overwhelming tragedy. We lost more than Catalina that day we lost trust in humanity and security you're supposed to have in your own home. We still don't feel comfortable being here anymore, they took that from us too. Through this we saw first-hand how little some people considered cruelty to animals concerning and it's just a cat mentality.
But we also found amazing people who truly cared for Catalina, spent hours searching for her in the freezing cold walking through deep brush and dangerous mountain sides. Local businesses even put up a reward for her return that got up over $1 ,000. She brought a community together with her story and reminded us that our faith in people needed to stay. There is good in this world even though the worst tragedy there is hope to be found. We had a drone looking for her and kayaks in an icy river. None of them except for a few knew us let alone Catalina. But they came to help us find her, this little girl she changed our entire world. All because we decided to love her, and we truly did. We as a family had two choices, we could simply be angry and do nothing but go through with charges or we pulled it together and tried to make a change. We could use the fight Catalina had in her for life to make sure her tragic death meant something. We believe this is what we're supposed to do. We have no way of knowing what the outcome is going to be April 2nd. We must face the reality that they could walk away with little to no consequences. Even with all the evidence
It is still not up to us. That is up to the law the judge and the D.A. they have their own lawyers we do not. We just simply can't afford the fees on our own. But with that said that doesn't mean we stop fighting for justice for Catalina and so many others who have and will go through similar situations as we're facing right now. Our hope is we can continue to build a community willing to support our efforts to make sure there are resources for people going through this. One thing you will learn about animal cruelty cases there isn't a lot of resources available here in Pennsylvania.
You will send 500 emails to get 5 responses. All the agencies are overwhelmed with cases or they themselves don't have the funds or resources to help the cases they themselves already have. But we can slowly change this, it won't happen overnight or without blood, sweat and tears but this hard work and dedication we as a community can and will make a difference for these animals and their families affected by animal cruelty. We're trying to raise awareness and build a foundation for these families and their beloved pets. Animal cruelty is only a start for most of these people who harm animals. We personally have been doing research into other people's situations and it’s not for the faint of heart. Nightmares become reality reading about those cases. It’s heartbreaking and with that said we understand that Catalina's case isn't one of a kind. We also know the toll and its steep for the one's left picking up the broken pieces left behind by the inhumane treatment and their tragic deaths
Catalina and all the good and happy times
we must celebrate our life together and grieve her tragic death.
